Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland Portstewart, Northern Ireland Giants Causeway, Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland

The names of Fred Daly, Darren Clark, Graeme McDowell and more recently Rory McIlroy have all brought Northern Ireland to the forefront as a formidable golfing venue – and rightly so. The tough seaside courses (links) of Royal Portrush and Royal Co Down are already well known but there are so many other great destinations within this small, truly hospitable country that you will kick yourself for not coming here. Not to mention the stunning setting of the Giants Causeway and the Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, the history of the Old Bushmills Distillery and the smooth flow of the Guinness! And there’s more …

  • Day 1 – After arriving into one of the two conveniently located Belfast airports you will be transported to the village of Bushmills where The Bushmills Inn awaits with the warmest of Irish welcomes. Assuming your jet lag isn’t too bad then you can unpack the clubs and make your way over to ROYAL PORTRUSH. Golf today will be on the VALLEY LINKS course (the no 2 course at Portrush but a really great test). A welcome dinner will be arranged for you this evening before you get a good nights sleep.
  • Day 2 – Back to Portrush today for your chance to play the only course in Ireland to have hosted The Open – ROYAL PORTRUSH’S DUNLUCE course. Take time on the 5th green to look over at the ruins of Dunluce Castle, the surfers hitting the waves below you and the splendid ‘Skerries’ out in the distance. You’ll be forgiven for not concentrating on your putt!
  • Day 3 – Another superb links course awaits today as you make the short journey to PORTSTEWART. Standing on the 1st tee you can look across at one of the longest beaches in Ireland, then slightly further in the distance you can see the Mussenden Temple at Castlerock and finally you may even see the hills of Donegal. (For those with x-ray vision, if you look hard enough, you might see New York!)
  • Day 4 – A rest day, finally, as you leave the northern shores of Ireland – no doubt with time to stop off at the Distillery or the Causeway – and make your way to Newcastle, Co Down. Your home for the next couple of days will be the Slieve Donard Hotel, perched almost on the edge of the 1st tee. You’ve probably heard it before but until you see it you cannot truly appreciate how the Mountains of Mourne do genuinely sweep down to the sea. A welcoming dinner awaits tonight as you settle in to your new abode.
  • Day 5 – ROYAL COUNTY DOWN faces you today so be prepared – keep away from the beautiful heather and sun kissed gorse bushes. As you hit your tee shot off the 9th and you look down the fairway to the green, the scenery will take your breath away. Enjoy this glorious golf course.
  • Day 6 – It may not be as well known but the village of ARDGLASS has a stunning course overlooking the sea and is definitely worth a visit. The hospitality here is second to none – you’ll not want to go home, its as simple as that.
