Spain, Portugal and Morroco
The ‘old faithfuls’ – with a twist! Golfers have been striding along the lush fairways of Spain and Portugal for decades now, but few have realised that you can combine these well-known courses with a short trip to North Africa and a taste of Morocco.
- Day 1 Transfer from Faro airport in Portugal to the marina area at Vilamoura and check into the Vila Gale Marina Hotel. The Vila Gale is a modern hotel with the perfect location - right next to the beach, golf courses and restaurants.
- Day 2 Play OCEANICO OLD. As its name suggests this is the oldest and most popular of the five courses at Vilamoura. The trademark umbrella pine trees of this region line the fairways and provide a stunning backdrop to a really good test of golf.
- Day 3 Play QUINTA DO LAGO SOUTH. This is one of the regions original championship venues, having been a regular host of the Portuguese Open. Always in excellent condition, this course offers you every test imaginable – from short shots over water, tricky doglegs and tough bunkers.
- Day 4 Play VILA SOL. This course has a well earned reputation as one of Portugal’s best. The 27 holes operate in 3 loops of 9 holes and can be played in any combination. The narrow fairways demand accurate tee shots and the many water hazards make club selection a real challenge.
- Day 5 Have a rest from golf today as you travel from Portugal into Spain. Make your way to the hubbub of Marbella and check into the AGH Estepona Spa Hotel. Another great location where you can walk to the beach or the many bars and restaurants!
- Day 6 Play LA RESERVA. At over 7000 yards off the back tees this is a great test of golf; but with 5 sets of tees on each hole you don’t have to always be so brave! The large greens mean you need to know your distances or get used to some very long putts.
- Day 7 Play LA DUQUESA. Designed by Robert Trent Jones this is a real classic. Laid out around the El Hacho Hill you get magnificent views of the Mediterranean and the Rock of Gibraltar. Plenty of shrewdly placed bunkers mean this course requires accuracy more than power!
- Day 8 Time for something a little different! Your tour guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to the port of Tarifa where you will catch a ferry over to Tangier in Northern Africa. Once in Tangier you will make your way to the oldest golf course in Morocco – THE ROYAL COUNTRY CLUB. After golf you can check into your new hotel and then enjoy a sumptuous Moroccan feast for dinner.
- Day 9 Some more Eastern promise awaits as you tee it up at the ROYAL CABO NEGRO GOLF CLUB in Tetouan. This is a beautiful layout which combines links golf and mountain views – all at just under 7000 yards. A brief tour of some local sights after golf and then back to the ferry and you return to the Estepona Spa Hotel.
- Day 10 Time to go home I’m afraid. The closest departure airport is Malaga and from here you can easily catch connections to London, Europe and the US.
